Weekes has things to say as he heads out the door

(Credit: CBC News)
Outgoing Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and MLA for Biggar, Randy Weekes, had some things to say on the last day of spring legislative sitting.
As legislative proceedings wrapped up on Thursday, Weekes stood before the assembly and made accusations aimed at Jeremy Harrison, the Minister of Trade and Export Development and Government House Leader. Weekes read aloud text messages he had received from members on the Saskatchewan Party side of the assembly, accusing government members of criticizing his rulings as Speaker. This was not the first time Weekes had read private text messages into the public record.
Weekesâ relationship with his government caucus colleagues appeared to deteriorate significantly after he was defeated in a contested nomination race last December. As a result of the new electoral boundaries, Weekesâ previous constituency of Biggar was significantly redistributed. He decided to run for the Sask. Partyâs nomination in Kindersley-Biggar, but was defeated by Kim Gartner by a wide margin.
On Wednesday night, Weekes posted a photo of his Saskatchewan Party membership card that had been cut in half, with the caption âEnough is enough.â
Weekes was first elected as a MLA in 1999.

Wilson out as leader of Sask. United

Nadine Wilson (CBC News)
Nadine Wilson is out as leader of the Saskatchewan United Party.
The party said in a statement yesterday that Deputy Leader Jon Hromek will assume the role as party leader. The party did not say if Wilson would continue on as deputy leader of the party or in any other capacity.
Wilson has been leader of the far-right party since 2022, coming after she was bounced from the Saskatchewan Party caucus in 2021 after lying about her COVID-19 vaccine status.
Hromek recently made news here in The SKoop Political Briefing after his family trust, Adonai Resources Corp. II, made a $200,000 corporate donation to the Saskatchewan United Party last year. The donation is believed to be one of the largest donations in Saskatchewan political history.
To date, Saskatchewan United has only nominated two candidates, Hromek and Wilson, in advance of the fall provincial election.

Each week leading up to the 2024 election, The SKoop Political Briefing will highlight constituencies that have nominated a candidate from at least both major parties. Today, we look at White City-QuâAppelle. This is a new riding that includes the eastern portions of Regina Wascana Plains, including the town of White City, and most of Indian Head-Milestone.
The incumbent: Brad Crassweller is a new face in the Saskatchewan Party looking to continue to represent the area held by longtime incumbent Don McMorris. Crassweller is a local family business owner.
The challenger: The NDP held a contested nomination won by Grady Birns. Pike is a musician and telecommunications specialist from Fort QuâAppelle.
The takeaway: This seat is safe for the Sask. Party. McMorris had held this riding for the Sask. Party since 1999, garnering over 60% of the vote in the last four elections.
