Good morning! Polls closed later in the evening across the province due to higher voter turnout, including in Saskatoon where results didn’t begin to show up until well after 10pm. At the time of publishing, Cynthia Block had a solid lead over Gordon Wyant in the mayoral race.
We will get all of the Saskatoon results for you tomorrow morning. (Sorry - we are getting older and it’s time to go to bed!)
Here’s The SKoop for Thursday, November 14:
Reginans elect a new mayor in surprise result,

Chad Bachynski elected Mayor of Regina, new councillors look to take their seats
New Mayor-elect of Regina Chad Bachynski.
Voters in the Queen City went to the polls yesterday and elected political newcomer Chad Bachynski to serve as Mayor of Regina.
There were eleven candidates on the ballot for mayor. With all polls reporting, Bachynski was ahead with 31% of the vote, beating councillor Lori Bresciani and incumbent Mayor Sandra Masters who placed third. Bachynski ran on a platform of finding efficiencies, investing in infrastructure, and fiscal responsibility. The election of Bachynski is a stunning result and ends Masters’ tenure as mayor, in yet another example of incumbents being bounced out by voters.
Many city council races were too close to call at the time of publishing.
Ward 1: Dan Rashovich defeated Joanne Crofford by 55 votes, one of many close races from last night.
Ward 2: This race was a barnburner in 2020, and so it was again last night. Incumbent Bob Hawkins and challenger George Tsikilis went back and forth all night. With all polls reporting, Tsikilis was barely ahead of Hawkins by just 38 votes.
Ward 3: David Froh will be the new councillor for Ward 3, handily beating the other two contenders. Froh previously served as Vice President for Regina Food Bank.
Ward 4: Mark Burton defeated Glen Geiger by 217 votes.
Ward 5: Sarah Turnbull appeared to narrowly defeat Grant Jakubowski by less than 200 votes.
Ward 6: Victoria Flores was elected with 45% of the vote over Glenn Douglas.
Ward 7: Shobna Radons was elected, and defeated incumbent Terina Nelson.
Ward 8: Incumbent councillor Shanon Zachidniak was re-elected with 38% of the vote beating Alex Tkach.
Ward 9: Incumbent councillor Jason Mancinelli narrowly beat Tanis Wilder by just 37 votes.
Ward 10: Clark Bezo defeated Jerry Flegel and will be a new councillor.
Last night, public and separate School Board Trustees were elected, and you can see those results, along with the full municipal results, here.

New Mayor elected in Prince Albert
Newly elected Mayor of Prince Albert Bill Powalinsky.
The third-largest city in Saskatchewan will also have a new Mayor. In another upset victory, Bill Powalisnky defeated longtime incumbent Greg Dionne to become the new Mayor of Prince Albert.
Powalinsky said, “My goal is to bring responsible leadership to Prince Albert. Through balanced decision-making, I can support and foster a prosperous, safe, inclusive, and vibrant future for our community.” He ran on a platform of crime prevention and fiscal accountability.
Dionne had been mayor in Prince Albert since 2012.
Daniel Brown, Troy Parenteau, Bryce Laewetz, Stephen Ring and Dawn Kilmer were elected as City Councillors. Tony Head, Blake Edwards, and Darren Solomon were acclaimed to the City Council.
Other municipal races welcome a mix of new and familiar faces
Newly elected Mayor of Moose Jaw James Murdock.
Elections were held across the province yesterday and many of Saskatchewan’s cities elected new faces to local government.
The City of Moose Jaw has also elected a new Mayor. James Murdock handily beat incumbent Clive Tolley. The six councillors elected are Jamey Logan, Patrick Boyle, Chris Warren, Heather Eby, Dawn Luhning, and Carla Delaurier.
Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal was acclaimed for another term. Tom Christiansen, Ryan Switzer, Bruce Deg, Ryan Plewis, Courtney Stewart, and Leanne Tutland-Wiebe were elected to the City Council.
Warman Mayor Gary Philipchuk was acclaimed for another term.
Weyburn also elected a new Mayor to lead the city for the next four years. Longtime councillor Jeff Richards defeated three-term Mayor Marcel Roy with well over 60% of the vote. Kelli Sidloski, Todd Bedore, Larry Heggs, Laura Morisette, Ryan Janke, and John Corrigan were elected as City Councillors.
The City of Estevan also has a new Mayor, Anthony Sernick. He defeated his challenger Rebecca Ford by just 146 votes. The councillors elected are Shelly Veroba, Brian Johnson, Kristen Walliser, Mathew Dubowski, Tom Mauss, and Dave Elliot.
Other urban and rural municipalities also held civic elections to elect Mayors, councillors, reeves, and school board trustees to serve terms over the next four years.
