NDP nominate candidate in Lloydminster

SaskVotes 2024 (X)

The Saskatchewan NDP have nominated their candidate in the constituency of Lloydminster.

Adam Trembley was acclaimed last night at a meeting in Lloydminster. Trembley is a teacher in Paradise Hill.

Trembley will now go up against Saskatchewan Party Advanced Education minister and MLA for Lloydminster Colleen Young. Young was first elected in a by-election in 2014, and was recently appointed to cabinet after the resignation of Gord Wyant. The Saskatchewan United Party have not nominated a candidate yet in Lloydminster.

The NDP have now nominated 46 candidates in advance of the fall election.

Sask. United nominate additional candidates

Sask. United party candidates

The Saskatchewan United Party is continuing to nominate candidates ahead of the 2024 provincial election.

The party currently holds one independent seat in the Legislature, two seats are needed for party status. SUP leader Hromek placed second in the Lumsden Morse by-election last summer and helped finance the party with a donation of $200,000 from his company, the largest donation in the history of the province.

This week the party nominated Shauna Stanley Semour to run in Carrot River Valley, Darren Ebernal in Dakota-Arm River, and Pamela Carpenter in Regina Elphinstone-Centre. Leader Jon Hromek wrapped up his summer tour yesterday with a visit to Weyburn, where the party is expected to nominate a candidate. The party has an active constituency association in Last Mountain Touchwood as well.

While SUP has nominated 8 candidates, other third-party contenders have also been organizing. The Green Party has nominated 18 candidates. The Buffalo Party has named 5, the Progressive Conservatives have named 8 candidates, and the Progress Party has named none.

The Saskatchewan Party has 53 candidates in place and the NDP has 46.

Constituency Profile Series: Sponsored by Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA)

SUMA represents over 80% of Saskatchewan residents —cities, towns, villages, resort villages, and northern municipalities—that come together as one urban voice.

We’ve been here since 1905, advancing collective member interests with various government bodies, improving local governance, and fostering municipal growth. We are the urban hubs where you live, work, and play. We're where your children go to school, where you attend medical appointments at the clinic, and where you stop for coffee.

We are URBAN. To learn more visit www.suma.org.

Each week leading up to the 2024 election, The SKoop Political Briefing will highlight a constituency that has nominated a candidate from at least both major parties. Today, we look at Saskatoon Eastview. This urban riding is primarily residential and tucked between Churchill-Wildwood, Stonebridge and Nutana.

The incumbent: Matt Love was first elected MLA in 2020. He is a former teacher and coach and has served as the education critic and the critic for seniors.

The challenger: Francis Krieser is a former teacher and school administrator who recently retired from a career in oil and gas. Krieser has run for the party before, previously running in Eastview in 1998 and 1999, and in 1995 as a Liberal candidate.

The takeaway: This will likely be a safe NDP seat. The NDP has consistently won this riding for decades, although current federal Conservative MP Corey Tochor represented this riding provincially for two terms. Love will look to defend his riding.
